Welcome to Safety Soap Box where Walsall people
have a say about prostitution occurring in their locality.

This site presents the findings of a piece of academic research completed in 2001 and includes artwork created during the research process.

Residents and traders of Caldmore, Pleck and Palfrey, women who work on the streets and professionals working with them gave researchers their opinions about prostitution.
As a result a report Working Together To Create Change was produced.
The researchers wanted to report back to all those involved in the research in a user-friendly way, so a leaflet was produced which forms the basis for this site.

We hope you find the information and artwork thought provoking and interesting.

Prostitution has been around as long as humanity so expectations that it can be eradicated are unrealistic. By working together and making information available, situations can be managed more successfully.

Images of the artwork were put on show at
Walsallís New Art Gallery in 2001
The research was funded through HAZ (Health Action Zone)
The researchers - Dr Maggie OíNeill and Rosie Campbell.
Plus a team of local people.
The artist - Kate Green

Walsall is a metropolitan borough 8 miles north of Birmingham in the conurbation of the West Midlands. Its roots are in the saddlery and associated hardware trade. Many small communities including Caldmore, Palfry and Pleck merge inseparably to form the town.
